But crossing the river by boat, the farmer could carry only himself and a single one of his purchases: the wolf, the goat, or the cabbage. If left unattended together, the wolf would eat the goat, or the goat would eat the cabbage. The farmer’s challenge was to carry himself and his purchases to the far bank of the river, leaving each purchase intact. How did he do it?

1. Farmer and goat travel together and drop goat on the other side.
2. Farmer return back and pickup wolf.

4. Farmer and goat return back to drop goat and pickup cabbage, as the goat would eat the cabbage.
5. Farmer and cabbage travel together and drop cabbage on the other side. (Wolf and Cabbage crossed the river).
6. Farmer return back to pickup goat.
7. Farmer and goat travel together and now all three purchases of farmer crossed the river.
