SBI launches ‘Gram Seva Program’ across six states of India: State Bank Group announced the commencement of the fourth phase of the “SBI Gram Seva” initiative on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, adopting 30 remote villages in Aspirational Districts in Haryana, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal.

Gram Seva Program

  • In an effort to create and promote an Atmanirbhar Rural India, SBI Gram Seva was established in 2017 to commemorate Gandhiji’s vision of Gram Swaraj. It is one of the key initiatives of the State Bank Group’s CSR division.
  • It is a comprehensive program for rural development that adopts villages to promote the socioeconomic progress of rural India. It makes it possible for villages to become self-reliant (Atmanirbhar) by transforming each one into a self-efficient, autonomous entity with access to the infrastructure needed for a decent standard of living.
  • With the commencement of the 4th phase of SBI Gram Seva, the program’s reach will increase to 130 villages, of which 75 are located in Aspirational Districts that the Indian government’s NITI Aayog has identified. Additionally, 16 of the country’s 17 SBI Circles will be covered by the SBI Gram Seva program.
  • Gram Seva Program was started as part of the bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility. It focuses on the overall development of villagers by active participation in areas like infrastructure, livelihoods, healthcare, education, and healthcare. This initiative has currently been adopted in 100 villages in three phases across 16 States.
