Dry dating - the newest dating trend that’s fast becoming popular!!
It’s 2023 and youngsters have decided to keep their dating game dry. No, it’s not what you’re thinking - we’re talking about dry dating, that’s fast becoming the go-to way for people to date these days.What is dry dating?
Dry dating involves a dating experience that doesn’t involve alcohol - two people go out for a date but choose to stay sober so as to focus more on the conversation and better assess compatibility with the other person.As per Bumble’s dating trends for 2023 study, 45% of Indians said they choose not to drink on dates to get to know the other person better and 56% of the respondents felt they wanted to get to know a prospective partner without any distractions such as alcohol.
To drink or not to drink - that’s a potent question. With a fitness revolution taking place globally, more and more people are reassessing their lifestyles and their relationships with both junk food and habits such as cigarettes and alcohol. There’s also the factor of mental health - alcohol has been shown to greatly affect our anxiety levels. As a result, an increasing number of people are now more conscious of how much they drink and on what occasions.
For instance, in the aforementioned Bumble survey, a staggering 31% of Indians currently in the dating game said they drink only to keep their date company. Also, 24% of the respondents said they won’t be drinking on dates going forward.
How to go about dry dating?
If you’ve decided to give dry dating a shot (pun not intended), make sure you inform your date of your plans. Instead of meeting them at a bar, you could catch up over a cup of coffee or a meal. Or turn the scene around completely and go to a museum, art exhibition and/or stand-up show. You could even take a workout class together or check out a food festival.Alcohol isn’t a prerequisite when it comes to dating - options for dry dating are aplenty!
