Why Vyasa is 'Veda Vyasa' ??

Needu and Ancio explained well. There were some Vyasas as Ancio and Needu said.

In Thuvabara yuga (3rd yuga)
Mahabaratha Vyasa is the Veda Vyasa
( Krishna dvaipayana)

This Vyasa only wrote Mahabaratha. And one of the characters in Mahabaratha.

The epic story started with King santhanu (bharatha vamsa) And we all know about it.

During the Mahabaratha period,

As per puranas,

Vyasa is the son of Sage Parasara and Matsyagandha (sathyavathi)

At the age of 6 , he joined with his father parasara as his disciple. Vyasa learned everything from sage parasara.

He compiled and classified it into three parts to make people understand, as Needu described.

Sage Parashara believed that the 'Atharvana Veda' can cure mind and body. and he believed, atharvana also deserved equal importance.

All his life he went in search of the great
sage 'Maha Atharvana Jabali' , the only person who knew the Atharvana veda entirely. But during his lifetime he could never meet the great sage.

Many years later, his son Veda Vyasa not only met and learnt all Atharvana Veda hyms from Jabali, but also loved and married the sage's daughter Vatika.

Vyasa loved and married Vatika and compiled the fourth Atharvana too.

Vatika is the wife of Veda Vyasa ( from Atharvana family)

Veda vyasa is the only person who learned everything, compiled and classified.
(not only 3 but also 4th Atharvana)

He taught 1. Rig Veda to Pyler,
2. the Yajur veda to Vaisampayana,
3. the Sama Veda to Jaimini,

and 4. the Atharva veda to Sumantu.

Before Vyasa no one learned and classified
all four Vedas. His disciples also learned any one of these only.

So vyasa is the one and only 'Veda Vyasa'

Guru Purnima festival is dedicated to him. He is immortal

Still in this kali yuga he is exist.
