What we collect, and for how long
- Email address — collected to verify your account if you register one with us. Guests are not asked for an email.
- IP address — collected to determine your approximate location, so that advertising and content can be relevant to your region.
- User agent — collected so we can serve the right layout for your device and keep the chat experience consistent.
- Retention — IP address and user agent information is stored for a maximum of 90 days and deleted periodically.
Deleting your account
We provide an option to delete your account on individual request from the account owner. Write to [email protected] from the address on the account, and tell us the username you want removed.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used — which rooms are busy, which pages people arrive on, and roughly where in the world they are. It sets its own cookies and receives your IP address and browser details. We do not send it your nickname, your messages or anything else that identifies you personally.
Because the chat itself runs in an embedded window, the page also sends a periodic signal while its tab is open, so a visitor who is chatting is not recorded as having left. It reports nothing about you beyond the fact that the tab is still on screen, and it stops when the tab is hidden or closed.
You can opt out with Google’s browser add-on, or by blocking analytics cookies in your browser.
Advertising
We serve advertising through third parties, which may set their own cookies and use your approximate location to choose which advertisement to show. Those companies’ use of the data they collect is governed by their own privacy policies, not this one.
