Built for talking to strangers
Random chat has its own guard rails, on top of the community guidelines.
- Links and phone numbers are blocked, so nobody can pull you off to another app.
- Report ends the chat on the spot and sends it to the moderators.
- People reported by several others are removed from random chat.
- Adults only. If someone seems under 18, report them.
Questions
Random chat FAQ
How does random chat work?
Tap Start and you are matched with one other person who is also looking for someone to talk to. It is just the two of you. Tap Skip at any point to leave and meet someone new.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up and no email — just pick a name to show the other person. Your browser remembers it for next time, and nothing about the chat is kept once it ends.
Why can't I send links or phone numbers?
Because moving a stranger to WhatsApp or a link is how most scams and most harassment start. Random chat stays text-only and on this page, where Report works. Read the safety tips for more.
What happens when I report someone?
The chat ends immediately and the last part of the conversation is kept for the moderators to review. People who are reported by several others are removed from random chat.
Is it only for adults?
Yes. You must be 18 or over to use random chat. See our child safety standards.
